E-waste

Recycling Program

E-waste is any electronic product or accessory that is no longer usable and is at the end of its life, such as old defective products like CPUs, LED TVs, and other electronics, is considered e-waste. E-waste is defined as “waste electrical and electronic equipment, whole or in part, or rejects from their manufacturing and repair process, which are intended to be discarded.” Electrical and electronic equipment is defined as “equipment which is dependent on electrical currents or electromagnetic fields to function fully.

E-waste generally consists of those substances contained in an electronic product which can bring adverse effects to the atmosphere and hence managing it in a proper way is important. Apart from affecting the environment, it can also affect the health of the people.

Recycling of old electronic products is beneficial in the following ways:

  • There is a need to encourage recycling of all useful and valuable materials from e-waste to conserve the ever-depleting natural resources. Recycling end-of-life products is vital if we are to save resources and minimize waste.
  • Also, scientific disposal of e-waste reduces environmental pollution. The correct disposal of old products will help prevent potential negative consequences for the environment and human health.

Following are the negative consequences of disposal of products if not done in a scientific way:

  • Toxic materials present in e-waste get mixed with earth, air, water, etc., and cause health issues.
  • Burning of rubber & Plastic in open areas causes air pollution.

In India, E-Waste (Management) Rules 2016 have been notified by the Central Government. Extramarks stands committed to implementing E-Waste Rules. Extramarks has tied up with the PCB (Pollution Control Board) authorized e-Waste recycler to facilitate our customers in disposing of e-waste products after their end-of-life.
