The cut-off score is the minimum marks required to qualify for the exam. Generally, the National Testing Agency releases the cut-off score along with the NEET results scoreboard. NEET Cut off is not the same for all categories: There are three factors NEET 2023 cut-off will depend on-
- Number of seats available
- Total number of candidates appearing in the exam
- The Examination difficulty level.
NEET 2023 cut-off will be released for All India Quota with 15% seats and State Level Quota with 85% seats. Under All India Quota, 15% of candidates with the best score in the NEET exam will be allowed to take part in the NEET counselling process directly.
NEET Results Qualifying Percentile & Scores
The percentile cut-off is declared during the time of result. When compared to the cut-off of JEE Main, which is higher for counselling, the NEET results show a low cut-off of 50 percentile only. A candidate who wants to qualify for the NEET exam needs to secure not only the NEET 2021 cut-off marks but also the pass percentile stated by NTA. For instance, if the NEET 2023 cut-off for the unreserved category is 50th percentile, it states that aspirants who are in this category need to secure equal to or more than fifty per cent of the candidates who will appear for the NEET exam 2023. Statistics state that more than 8 lakh candidates out of 15,44,275 candidates have met the qualifying percentile of the exam.
NEET 2023 Result: How To Calculate The Percentile Score?
According to the definition specified by the NTA, “A percentile rank is the percentage of score that falls below a given score in a group.” Mentioned below is the formula to calculate the NEET cut-off percentile score applied by the NTA.
NEET Percentile score = (Candidate’s NEET score x 100)/NEET score of the topper
Tie-breaking Method in NEET Results 2023
With millions of aspirants taking part in the exam, there is always the possibility of two or more candidates obtaining equal scores. In such cases, a tie-breaking method is introduced to break NEET cut-off and qualifying scores. The good news about NEET Results 2023 is that the method of using the age limit to break the tie has been cancelled.
Stated below are the steps used in the tie-breaking method of the NEET results.
- Higher marks in Biology: The candidate who has secured a higher score in Biology will be given first-hand preference for the NEET merit list.
- Higher marks in Chemistry: On comparing the biology score, if the tie hasn’t still broken, then the student with a higher chemistry score will be taken into consideration.
- Total Number of incorrect answers: In case the tie still exists after applying the above two methods, students who have attempted more correct answers and a low number of incorrect answers will be given a better rank.
