Introduction To NEET PG

NEET PG, also known as National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Post Graduate, is a qualifying entrance examination conducted annually by the NBE-National Board of examination. NBE is a self-governed body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare that was established in 1975 by the Government of India. It was established in New Delhi under the Delhi Society registration act. 

The purpose of NBE to emerge as a society was to standardise postgraduate medical education as well as postgraduate medical examination in India. Passionate candidates who wish to pursue further a postgraduate degree in Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS) and various diploma courses in government and private universities register themselves for the examination. 

NEET PG 2023

The NEET PG 2023 examination was to be conducted on March 12. However, it has now been postponed to May. The examination will be conducted on May 21 2023, by the National Board of Examination (NBE). Medical aspirants who are appearing for the entrance examination should observe the examination dates. This will prevent them from missing out on any of the important NEET PG examination dates. The examination admission will be given to 50% AIQ (All India Quota), 50% state quota seats, central universities, Employees State Insurance Corporation Medical Colleges, Armed Forces Medical College and private colleges. Through the examination scores, admission to 24,360 doctors of medicine, 12,690 Master of Surgery, and 922 Postgraduate Diploma seats will be allotted.  

NEET PG 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Aspirants who wish to apply for NEET PG should read the eligibility criteria before applying. This will help students clarify their doubts and queries regarding eligibility, such as the maximum age limit or the number of attempts allowed. The eligibility criteria are laid out as per the arrangement of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956. On the contrary, the National Board of examination (NBE) has no role in the formulation of the eligibility criteria.

Applicants should take note that if one is not found eligible for NEET PG, their registration will be discontinued. Hence, it is mandatory to meet all the desired requirements before registering for the examination.

Eligibility Criteria: For General Category

Age Limit:

Fortunately, there is no upper age limit for the aspirants who wish to pursue NEET PG.

Attempt Limit:

There is no upper limit to the number of attempts for an applicant for the examination. A candidate can apply numerous times to get admission to the required course or institute they are passionate about.

Minimum Qualification:

An applicant must acquire an MBBS degree from a recognised institute by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The candidates must secure an MBBS degree or a Provisional MBBS Pass Certificate when applying for admission.

Internship:

Only those applicants who have completed the compulsory rotatory internship of 1-year duration before May 31, 2023 , will be permitted to apply for the examination in 2023. Candidates who are not able to complete their internship in the expected duration will not be eligible to take the examination in 2023.

Registration Certificate:

Applicants pursuing NEET PG must also have a valid Registration Certificate provided by the MCI (Medical Council of India) or any (SMC) State Medical Council. Applicants should carry a copy of the registration certificate to present on the day of the examination . Without a Registration Certificate, the candidate will be barred from answering the examination.

Eligibility Criteria For Foreign Medical Graduates

Nationality:

Citizens of India who are overseas(OCI) aspirants who have completed their primary medical qualification from outside India and desire to appear for NEET PG must meet the requirements of the Foreign Medical Graduate examination  (FMGE), a licensing examination. Those candidates who qualify for the examination can register with the Medical Council of India (MCI). MCI is a regulatory body upholding high standards of medical education in India. The FMGE qualifiers will receive a Pass Certificate. Aspirants who are medical graduates from foreign countries should carry this certificate on the day of examination. Without the Pass Certificate, the candidate will not be permitted to enter the examination hall.

Internship:

Only those foreign medical graduates who have completed their compulsory internship on or before 31 May 2023, will be permitted to apply for the examination. As mentioned earlier, candidates who are not able to complete their internship in the expected duration will not be eligible to enrol for the 2023 examination

Eligibility Criteria: For Foreign Nationals

Foreign nationals who wish to pursue NEET PG must meet the conditions given below.

• Candidates must have primary and intermediate medical qualification, which is recognised by the Medical Council of the country he/she belongs to.
• The candidates should be listed with the appropriate authority in their distinctive country.

In such cases, applicants who wish to register for NEET PG 2023 do not require a Registration Certificate from the Medical Council of India(MCI). Once the candidates get through the examination and manage to get hold of a seat, they must complete the registration fee payment to MCI, followed by which they will be presented with a temporary registration. The registration will be valid only for the period of the corresponding course.

For Those Pursuing A Master’s Degree

In some cases, applicants already pursuing a PG course can also apply for NEET PG. However, most Universities and Institutes have guidelines. They do not provide authorisation for candidates already pursuing PG till the period of their current course is over. Hence, applicants should go through the eligibility requirements of the University or Institute thoroughly in which they choose to enrol before registration. 

NEET PG examination Pattern

NEET PG 2023 examination consists of 200 multiple-choice questions. The total number of questions was 300 earlier and has recently been reduced to 200. The total marks for the examination paper are 800. The marking system follows the same pattern as before. 

For answers attempted, every right answer will be rewarded with four marks, while on the other hand, you will be deducted one mark for every incorrect answer, which is a 25%negative marking. The time duration of the examination is now three hours and thirty minutes. Moreover, the time has now been changed from 3 PM to 7 PM(earlier) to 9 AM to 12:30 PM(present).

The NEET PG examination is a single examination session conducted once a year by the NBE. The examination is a computer-based test(CBT). Unlike the NEET exam pattern conducted in 13 languages, the NEET PG examination paper will be in English medium only. 

The NEET PG question paper covers a total of 15 subjects throughout the NEET MBBS curriculum. The syllabus is distributed into three parts Part A, Part B and Part C, which include subjects from Pre-clinical, para-clinical and Clinical. The subjects in pre-clinical include biochemistry, anatomy and physiology. The subjects in para-clinical include Microbiology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Social and preventive medicine and Forensic Medicine. And the subjects in the clinical consist of General Medicine, including Dermatology, Venereology & Psychiatry, ENT, General Surgery including Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia & Radiodiagnosis, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Ophthalmology. 

The syllabus of the entrance examination consists of all the subjects that were in the candidate’s syllabus while studying MBBS and BDS programs. Moreover, before answering the examination, there will be a Demo test. The pattern of the Demo test will be a unique sample of the NEET PG examination online. This examination is conducted to guide the candidates on how the examinationination of the NEET PG 2023 examination is laid out.

The objective is to focus on using certain elements of the test. For instance, how to navigate between screens, selecting and deselecting responses, reviewing and marking answers. • Select NEET PG 2023 admit card download link
• Select ‘ Applicant Login’
• Enter user ID and password
• NEET PG admit card PDF will appear on the screen
• Cross-check all details printed on the hall ticket
• Click on download
• Take a few printouts of the admit card to carry at the examination centre in case of any mishap.
• Affix a passport size photo as per the designation mentioned
