How to tell time: Time is always measured in hours and minutes. There are 60 seconds in 1 minute. Therefore, 60 minutes make 1 hour, and 24 hours make 1 day.

To tell time on the clock, one must look for an hour and minute hand. The hour is shown by  the shorter hand , whereas the minute is indicated by the longer hand.

Example: 

When the hour hand points at 3 and the minute hand points at 12, the time is 3 ‘o’clock. Similarly, when the shorter hand points at 5 and the long hand points at 3, the time is 5:15pm.

Time of the Day: Numbers tell the exact time, but in our daily life, we talk about the general time of the day instead of a specific time.

• Noon: It means 12:00 pm, or midday .

Time notation – AM and PM: when one says 5 ‘o’clock, one should let the person know it is a.m. (morning) or p.m. (night). A.M is “ante meridiem”, which means before noon, and P.M is “post meridiem”, which means afternoon.

Time conversion: To convert minutes to hours, divide the minutes by 60.

Example: 

540 minutes means 540/60= 9 hours

To convert hours to minutes, multiply given hours with 60

24 hours means 1440 minutes. 24×60= 1440
