Introduction: In this chapter, a farmer builds a fence around his field and must decide the length of the wire he needs to build a fence. To decide on the length of the wire, the farmer needs to calculate the length of the boundary of his field. So, the chapter explains how to calculate the length of the boundary and the length of the wire. To know the length of the boundary, the farmer must calculate the individual measurement of each side of the field. Once done, he must calculate the sum of all sides, giving the entire length of the boundary, which is also the length of wire the farmer will need.

Tailor also uses a similar concept to calculate the length of the lace that he needs to stick around the tablecloth. The tailor must determine the length of each side and then find the sum to calculate the total perimeter—the length of the lace that the tailor will require to stitch around the tablecloth.

Area: Area is a space inside a 2D shape. To find a square or quadrilateral area, one must multiply the length by width.

Example:  A rectangle with 5cm and 6cm sides would have an area of 30cm².

Perimeter: It is the length of the outer boundary of a shape or an object. To find the perimeter of any shape, one must add the length of all the sides.

Example: In a rectangle, if the width is 5cm and the length is 10cm, the perimeter will be 15cm.

Distance: Distance can be defined as the amount of space between two things or points.
