Tinu has used a block pattern to make a sari. He has used the same design to make three different patterns. Another three designs that students can make with the same block are below:

  1. In the first design, each leaf is rotated by 90 degrees as it moves forward and joins to the previous one until the same pattern as the first is achieved, and the pattern continues.
  2. In the second pattern, the first row 1 column contains two sticks with an upward arrow, and the second row 2 column contains two sticks with a downward arrow. The pattern continues with an increase of one stick with one upward and one downward pattern, respectively. As a result, this pattern keeps repeating.
  3. In the third pattern, as it progresses, we notice that the circle is rotated by 90 degrees each time. As a result, this pattern keeps repeating.

  1. In the first pattern, the alphabet of the English language is written. The alphabets are written in a pair of three alphabets in one in this pattern. As a result, this pattern continues, with the next alphabets in order.
  2. In the second pattern, the counting and the alphabet are reversed as one progresses through it. As a result, the design is thus created in the backwards order, starting from 28Z.
  3. In the third pattern, the next triangle is filled with a number calculated by subtracting 100 from the preceding one. As a result, the pattern continues as 100 less than the preceding number.
  4. In the fourth pattern, the upcoming shape is filled with a number produced by adding 100 to the previous one. As a result, this pattern keeps repeating with each number greater than 100 than the last number.

No Number Comes Twice

Looking at the box below, students can easily observe that a certain pattern is being followed. According to the design, in any of the given three lines, any number does not repeat.

Magic Patterns

In the above pattern, students can notice the magic. Each line in the design adds up to the number 12. Using this as a reference, students can also try out a different combination of numbers to ensure that each line of the magic pattern adds up to 12.

Magic Triangle

Similar to the previous magic pattern, this pattern represents a magic triangle.

Students can notice that each side of this magic triangle adds up to the number 9. Using this as a reference, students can make their magic triangles with the sides matching other numbers. For example, you can try to match each side of the magic triangle to get the sum of 10. They can use numbers from one to six for this exercise.

Number Towers

The above image depicts a number tower. It does not represent any random number order. If one observes closely, a pattern is being followed here. For a detailed explanation, look at the description below:

The figures given above represent three highlighted cells. In figure A and B, the two numbers in the row below add up to the number in the box above them.

Using it as a reference, students can make their number towers, where the two numbers add to make up the number above them.

The Same Sum Rule

A group of friends have come together to play the same sum game. There is a pattern that is being followed here. If we look closely, there will be two numbers that, when added similarly, give the same number.

The pattern goes as follows; we get the same sum when we add numbers in the order of; one from the left and one from the right. For example, if we add the first number from the left and the first number from the right, we get the sum of 27; similarly, if we add the second number from the left to the second number from the right, we also get the same sum, that is 27.

Patterns with Addition

When the numbers are added, it can be observed in the image above that the sum of each line forms a pattern. The sum of each line grows by a particular number. In the first part of the image, the sum of each line increases by 3 (6, 9, 12). In contrast, in the second part of the image, the sum grows by 4 (10,14,18).

Students can use this as a reference to make their own pattern with the addition.
