Omana writes everything about her journey in a diary. She was supposed to travel with her friend Radha to Kerala, and both were very excited. Kerala was a place where Omana’s grandmother lived. However, just two days  before their journey, Radha met with an accident and she had fractured her leg and was advised to take complete rest.

This incident caused Radha to cancel her trip, and both the friends were sad. But Radha’s mother suggested to Omana that she could write everything about her trip in a  diary and read it to Radha after she returned to Ahmedabad. 

Omana’s Diary of Travel Journey:

Omana begins to write the diary from the date of her journey, that is 16th May; as soon as they had reached the station, they checked their names on the reservation chart. The train  reached the platform. When the train arrived, the coach was already full. As the train  started from Gandhidham, in Kutch,  they had a lot of confusion. The people were getting off, and others were pushing and trying to put their luggage inside, all from one door.

They somehow managed to get in, found their seats and put their luggage under them. Later the ticket collector came to check for their tickets to see that they were in proper seats. 

Omanas parents had the lower berths. Unni (friend) and Omana  had the middle couch. There were two college students who had the upper berths. Omana sat near the window and started writing about the journey, just as she had promised. After some time, she was hungry, so  her mother opened the lunch box that she had packed for the journey, and they all had lunch.

As she took back her window seat, she saw many fields; they were all brown and dry. Sometimes they bypassed small villages. Did you know that when the train is at a very high-speed, things outside seem to be running in the opposite direction? At noon, it was really hot. During the evening, there was some breeze. On this journey, she made some friends. They were Sunil and Ann. They were going to their grandmother’s home in Kozhikode. Sunil gave her some storybooks to read.

Many Hawkers  were selling food on the platform. Omana purchased some bananas from the window of the train. The train had now stopped at the Valsad station for a few minutes. Through the window, Omana could see it was very crowded and noisy at the railway station.
