The story starts by describing Chuskit’s dream. It was a special day for Chuskit, and she could not sleep during the night as she was excited about going to school for the first time in 10 years. She was very excited as she had been waiting for this special day for a long time. Her school was not very far from her home, but they had to take the big road and then walk along the lake to cross the river and reach the school. It was how all the students of Skitpo Pul village reached their school. Initially, Chuskit did not know that she was different from other children. But slowly, she understood that she was not a normal child like other children. It was due to her legs, and she had a physical disability since her birth.

Chuskit’s Chair
Chuskit used to sit by the window and used to draw pictures. Her mother said that she made the best designs. Chuskit was very happy on the day when her father brought her a chair that consisted of wheels. Very soon, she learnt how to sit in the chair and move it – back and forth, Her father no longer had to carry her everywhere. Now, she could go around on her own. Every morning she saw other children laughing and playing on their way to school, and she wished that she could also go along with them.
One day, Abdul came home and saw Chuskit. Abdul asked her why she did not go to her school. She told him sadly that she could not walk. Her father could notcarry her to school every day. As the road to school was not levelled equally, she could not even wheel her chair on such a road.
Abdul asked her, “would you want to go to school if you could?” Chuskit was excited and said, “yes” she further told him that she wanted to study and play.
A Good Idea
Next, in our NCERT Solutions for Class 4 EVS Chapter 27 story, we discuss how Abdul works to get Chuskit back to school.
Abdul went back from Chuskit’s home but started to think of how to get Chuskit to school. He explained the situation of Chuskit to the Headmaster of the school and spoke to the teachers till they agreed with his ideas. They all agreed with Abdul and got together to work so that Chuskit could attend school.
They made efforts to level the uneven road. One group of students started to level the road. Another group worked to level up the area near the river. But there was still a problem. How would Chuskit cross the river? The older children took help from the teacher to make a small bridge with wood across the river.
Everyone happily worked hard. They wanted Chuskit to come back to school. Chuskit’s mother and father gave hot tea and biscuits to everyone. Chuskit’s grandfather had tears in his eyes, not because he was sad, but because he was very excited!
By the evening, the work was completed. All the children were happy. But the happiest of all was Chuskit. Her dream was about to come true. And today, it was that special day. Chuskit was all ready. She was eager to go to school!
The story gives an important message, as elaborated in our NCERT Solutions for Class 4 EVS Chapter 27. Many kids with physical impairment have tight muscles, weak muscles, or no strength. Handicap conditions might be permanent or temporary, minor or severe. Physical impairments might vary in terms of severity. However, in terms of education, not all students with physical impairments require special school accommodations.
