The Class 3 Evs From Here To There is divided into two parts. Part 1 talks about one of the most popular means of transportation, i.e., trains. Using the poem ‘Railgadi’ by Harendranath Chattopadhyay, it describes a train journey that takes the passengers through various scenes and settings. It begins by asking children to board the train that is set for a long journey. It moves on to talk about how the train makes a backward and forward motion while it runs on tracks made of iron. Once the train leaves the station, the passengers onboard get to witness beautiful views like meadows, hills, farmers, temples, mills, fields, fairs, huts etc. Hence in a light and easy manner, the poem gives the children a visual treat of what a train journey looks like.
In Part 2 of the chapter, From Here To There Question Answer is given. A discussion between students about where they travelled to in their summer vacations and how it is related. Each child talks in detail about the destination as well the choice of transport to reach there.
The first child talks about visiting her uncle in our capital city, New Delhi. Along with her family, she travels to Delhi by train. From the railway station to her uncle’s home, they boarded a Metro for the first time, as earlier they covered this distance by bus. The child mentions her absolute delight in getting to experience this new conveyance that travels through a tunnel!
The second child talks about the arrival of his bhaiya who travelled by aeroplane from the USA to India in just a day! He also tells everyone about his bua reaching the venue in a beautifully decorated palanquin. We learn from this that the aeroplane is one of the fastest means of travelling long distances.
The third child travels to her grandmother’s house in Kerala. Since her nani lives in a house surrounded by water, they decide to opt for a boat rather than land transport like a bus or taxi. The boat leads them directly to their grandmother’s house in a swift manner.
For the fourth child, summer vacation entails a trip to the beautiful hill station of Shimla. He travels by bus and describes the journey as going zig-zag through the mountains. Once in Shimla, his grandmother uses a mare to go from one place to another as due to her old age she is unable to walk on steep slopes. The young child however travels by foot everywhere.
The fifth child visits her khala during vacations. Since her grandmother’s house is close to where she lives, she prefers to ride her cycle to go to her house. Her brother and mother travel the same distance on a rickshaw.
The sixth child takes a trip to his mamaji’s village. The village is far-off from the railway station and the only means of transport from there to the village is a bullock cart. The child enjoys the ride on the bullock cart as it takes him through lush green fields.
Such experiences enunciated in the form of a discussion introduce children to the various ways in which people travel depending on the distance, type of terrain etc.
Conclusion
As we can see, From Here To There Class 3 EVS is an introduction to the different types of transportation available. Each mode has its advantages and uses. If we wish to travel fast and reach our destination quicker then planes or trains can be used. If we are travelling across the river or oceans, boats and ships are the ideal means of transport. For short distances, bicycles, and rickshaws can be used, while for longer distances we need cars or buses.
New means of transport are replacing old ones in some places. Like metro trains, e-rickshaws etc. These are designed to make travel easier as well as environment-friendly. In short, through this chapter, the child learns about the different ways in which travelling is possible along with the benefits of each mode of travel.
