- Heat
As the name suggests, you will learn about heat, the concepts of hot and cold and their varying degrees. By now, you may have seen or used a thermometer; now, it’s time to know more about it and laboratory thermometers.
- Acids, Bases and Salts
This chapter starts with distinguishing between acids and bases while giving examples of edible acidic and alkaline items like lemon, curd, vinegar, etc. It then shifts to the natural indicators that change colours and help us identify the acids and bases and the term ‘neutral’. This chapter also contains an elaborate explanation of the neutralisation process while taking help from daily life activities.
- Physical and Chemical changes
This chapter is segregated into four sections for easy understanding of various concepts. In the first section, you learn about physical changes with the help of five activities that include physical experiments. You know about the concepts of physical properties and physical changes. - Weather, Climate and Adaptations of Animals to Climate
This chapter deals with the climate and weather of various places and how living beings adapt to them. You also get an idea about the polar region and the tropical rainforest and how plants and animals adapt themselves to the extreme climatic conditions of these regions.
- Winds, Storms and Cyclones
Do you know the difference between winds, storms, and cyclones? How are they formed, and why do they differ in intensity? You get all your answers in this chapter. You learn concepts like air exerts pressure, reduced air pressure accompanying high-speed winds, expansion of air on heating and how wind currents are generated. Then there is a detailed sub-section about thunderstorms and cyclones that explains how a thunderstorm becomes a storm. You also learn about the destructive powers of cyclones, the safety measures that can help and how advanced technology has been aiding the world to be prepared and safe.
- Soil
Soil is a precious natural resource and forms a dynamic and complex ecosystem. This chapter begins with plants and animals’ relation with the soil and then shifts to soil profiling. - Reproduction in Plants
This chapter begins with the definition of reproduction and the modes of reproduction in plants – asexual and sexual. You become aware of the several modes of asexual reproduction methods like vegetative propagation, fragmentation, budding, and spore formation. You also learn about the concepts of self-pollination and cross-pollination, how fertilisation takes place in flowers and the ways through which seeds are dispersed.
- Motion and Time
