The Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main is a national level test conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering, architecture and planning programs at the IITs, NITs and other institutions. The exam comprises two papers. Paper-1 for aspiring engineering students (B.Tech) and Paper-2 for aspiring B.Arch students and designers.

JEE Main Paper-1 is a computer-based test (CBT) with 90 multiple choice questions split into three sections: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Four marks are given for every correct answer, and ¼ marks are deducted for every incorrect one. Once the exam is over, the projected exam score for all candidates is released along with a solution for each question.

Features of the JEE Main Question Papers

• Since the test is computer-based, the order of questions is unique for each candidate attempting the exam. This is because questions are allotted from a single question bank using a computer algorithm.
• Unlike an offline exam, candidates can change their answers multiple times before submitting their papers. Additionally, they can mark certain questions for review and attempt questions they are unsure about later.
• Given that each individual will receive a different question paper, there is little scope for using unfair means. In other words, candidates who have a thorough understanding of the JEE Main syllabus will stand a much greater chance of scoring well.

JEE Main Physics Exam Preparation Tips

1) Mechanics is one topic of Physics that is considered to be less scoring by most experts. However, this is also the topic that forms the major portion of the JEE (Main) in terms of marks. So, this topic cannot be ignored. 

2) One must also try to concentrate on other scoring topics to ensure a better performance, for example Optics, Electricity and Magnetism, etc. 

3) Formulae and Shortcuts: Formulae play an important role in answering numerical questions. It will be easier to come to solutions if you know the formulae. Repeatedly writing formulae in a separate notebook will aid in rapid and long-term learning.

The best way to prepare for the JEE Exam is to study the syllabus, solve as many JEE Main mock tests as possible, and solve past years’ question papers.
