ToggleJEE Main Chemistry Questions With Solutions
The Chemistry subject holds great significance in the JEE Main exam and is a scoring subject. The JEE Main Chemistry questions are concept based and most of them are directly asked from the NCERT books. Few chemistry JEE Mains questions are also numerical-based. Therefore, candidates should have an in-depth understanding of reactions, formulae and other concepts. Before solving JEE Main chemistry questions, students should be familiar with JEE Main syllabus, JEE Main eligibility criteria and JEE Main exam pattern. This will help each candidate prepare a study timetable and attain high ranks.
JEE Main Chemistry Syllabus
The chemistry paper in JEE Mains is divided into three subsections:
- Section A: Physical Chemistry
- Section B: Inorganic Chemistry
- Section C: Organic Chemistry
All three sections carry equal weightage. JEE Main chemistry questions aim to test the students’ calibre and theoretical and practical knowledge. In 2020, the NTA introduced numerical value type questions in JEE Main that carry 20% of the entire paper. Out of 10 JEE Main chemistry questions of numerical value type, students can attempt any 5. The rest, 80%, are multiple-choice questions (MCQ).
The table below enlists all chapters section-wise from which JEE Main Chemistry questions will be asked.

JEE Main Chemistry Exam Pattern & Important Questions
It is observed that JEE Main aspirants do not pay much attention to the Chemistry section. Because of this, they cannot answer the JEE Main chemistry questions and lose marks. Therefore, to solve the chemistry section quickly, students should pay equal attention to each subject.
The chemistry section has a total of 30 questions, out of which 25 have to be answered, summing up to 100 marks. The table below gives the section-wise distribution of JEE Main Chemistry questions:
No. of questions | No. of questions to be answered | Total Marks | |
Section A | 20 | 20 | 80 |
Section B | 10 | 5 | 20 |
For every correct answer, four marks will be added to the total. However, the JEE Main Examination has a negative marking system, which means that the student will lose one mark for every incorrect answer.
Benefits of Solving JEE Main Chemistry questions
- It helps students to know their weak points so that they can focus more on them.
- It helps to bifurcate the syllabus into important and not-so-important concepts to plan their schedule accordingly.

Do’s and Dont’s for JEE MAIN Exam
- It is essential not to skip any chapter from the NCERT book.
- Students should also study and practice JEE Main chemistry questions from JEE reference books.
- It is important to solve past years’ Chemistry JEE Mains questions and take JEE Main mock tests. For a quick glance, students should use JEE Main revision notes.
- Understand the difference between investing time and wasting time.
