Introduction to the Syllabus of ISC Class 12 Biotechnology
Students need to know the syllabus to score well in the ISC Class 12 Biotechnology examination. Biotechnology aims to give candidates an overview of how materials are given biological representations to enable assistance, cherish the role of Biotechnology in uplifting health care, the contribution of Biotechnology to human welfare, and to develop a scientific approach toward biotechnology.
A brief of the ISC Class 12 Biotechnology Syllabus
- Molecular Biology:
This is a vital topic, and one needs to understand the nucleic acids, their evaluation, and their biochemical form. It reveals techniques of nucleic acid evaluation, protein synthesis, the idea of reverse transcription, quality of genetic code, change of RNA to protein, and the Operon idea.
- Genetic Engineering:
This section of the SC Class 12 Biotechnology syllabus includes the foundation to Gene Cloning and Genetic Engineering, the notion of Cloning and Vectors, innovations in Biotechnology, and Gene analysis techniques.
- Cell Culture Technology:
In this section of the ISC Class 12 Biotechnology syllabus, the general tools and techniques used in Cell Culture Technology and their application to microbial, plant tissue, and animal cell cultures, respectively, are explained.
- Bioinformatics:
Bioinformatics is an institution for Global Informatics databases and Data retrieval tools, i.e. ENTREZ, and Taxonomy Browser. They are also the resolution of genomics, tools and applications, and the types of Proteomics.

ISC Class 12 Biotechnology Syllabus Examination Pattern
ICSE stands for Indian Certificate of Secondary Education. Here the examination is conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations for Grade X. Alternatively, ISC stands for Indian School Certificate. This examination is conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations for Grade XII. Therefore, ISC & ICSE Syllabus holds equal importance.
The ISC Class 12 Biotechnology syllabus has two papers. Paper 1 is theoretical and is 70 marks. Students are allotted a 3 hours time limit to finish the theory paper. It includes the entire syllabus for that semester.
Paper 2, on the other hand, consists of a practical assessment. It has a time limit of 3 hours. The mark’s weightage is divided into
- Practical Work – 15 Marks.
- Project Work – 10 Marks.
- Practical File – 5 Marks.
Practical Work – 15 Marks.
List of experiments to be completed by the student for ISC 12 Biotechnology:
- Paper Chromatography – split-up of Photosynthesis pigments.
- Production of Buffers.
- Production of Culture Media
- Sterilization of culture medium and other substances.
- Booster and incubation of Lactobacillus on the culture medium in Petri plate
- Spotting of bacteria by Gram +ve and Gram -ve
- Steps of enzymes on starch
- Segregation of DNA from plants
- DNA evaluation by colorimeter (DPA method)
- Protein Evaluation by color retort (Bradford Test)
- Cell ability test (Evan’s Blue Dye)
