A homogeneous mixture of one or more solutes in a solvent is called a solution. In a solution, the solute is present in a smaller amount than the solvent. The concentration of a solution depends on the amount of solute that gets dissolved in the solvent. In chemistry, a solute is a substance that has been dissolved in a solvent or the component of a chemical solution that is present in the smallest amount. Solvation is the process of combining a solute and a solvent to dissolve the solute. The amount of solute in a solvent or solution is referred to as its concentration.
A solvent is a substance that can dissolve an insoluble solute and create a solution. Solvents are typically liquids, but they can also be solids, gases, or supercritical fluids.
