Barium Sulfate Formula
Barium Sulphate is an inorganic substance. The Barium Sulfate Formula is written as BaSO4. It is a white, crystalline, odourless substance with several uses, notably in medicine. The mineral Barite is a naturally occurring form of Barium Sulfate. Barite is mined and processed to produce Barium Sulfate. Impurity-containing Barite must be heated with coke in order to produce water-soluble Barium Sulphide, which must then be separated from the impurities and made to react with sulphuric acid to produce Barium Sulfate. Students can learn more about the chemical composition, characteristics, and usage of Barium Sulfate through the extensively detailed article on the Extramarks website and mobile application curated by Extramarks experts.

ToggleBarium Sulfate Properties
Physical Properties of Barium Sulfate:
The Barium Sulfate Formula is written as BaSO4. A white, odourless powder or small crystals of pure Barium Sulfate have a density of 4.49 g/mL, a melting point of 1580 °C, and a boiling point of 1600 °C.
Chemical Properties of Barium Sulfate:
The universal solvent water is stated to have a very low solubility for Barium Sulfate. Additionally, it is soluble in concentrated acids but insoluble in alcohols. Combined with aluminium powder, it reacts violently. Due to its water insolubility and radio-opaque characteristics, barium sulphate has a wide range of applications in medicine and radiology. The Barium Sulfate Formula is written as BaSO4.
Barium Sulfate Chemical Structure
Students can visit the Extramarks website and mobile application to learn minute details about the chemical structure of Barium Sulfate. The notes based on the chemical structure of Barium Sulfate have been designed strictly pertaining to the CBSE norms therefore students will have nothing to worry about when it comes to the accuracy and authenticity of the study materials. The Barium Sulfate Formula is written as BaSO4. They can also get more details on the Barium Sulfate Formula on the Extramarks website and mobile application.
Barium Sulfate Uses
The Barium Sulfate Formula is written as BaSO4 and the following are its uses:
- A contrast agent is Barium Sulfate. When applied to the interior of the human oesophagus, stomach, or intestines, Barium Sulfate begins to work by making these organs easier to view on a CT scan or other radiologic (x-ray) examination.
- To assist in the diagnosis of some oesophageal, stomach, or gastrointestinal diseases, Barium Sulfate is sometimes used.
- Most of the world’s purified mineral Barium Sulfate production—about 80% of it—is used as a component of drilling fluid for oil wells. Increasing the density of the fluid reduces the likelihood of a blowout by raising the hydrostatic pressure inside the well.
