Answer 8: After a good night’s sleep, the author felt Darchen was not bad. He wandered the city and found two or three rudimentary shops. These shops sold soap, cigarettes, and other basic needs. Though the town was dusty due to a lack of vegetation, the sun was bright above it in the clear sky. Furthermore, one could see the stretch of Himalayan mountains to the south of it. As a result, the author perceived the natural beauty to be at ease.

“Tibetan mastiffs were popular in China’s imperial courts.”
Answer 9: Tibetan mastiffs are ferocious dogs and can smell the presence of enemies from a far distance. They are good runners and chase the enemies until they are off the owner’s property. So, these dogs were very famous as hunter-dogs in China. They were taken to the imperial courts in China from the villages along the Silk Route. They were seen as a tribute from Tibet.
Question 10. How was the town Hor?
Answer 10: Hor was a small town in the mountains lying beside the famous Silk Route. The narrator called the town “miserable” because it had no vegetation. So, it stood on the rocky floor of the valley. But the town was near the Mansarovar, and one could view the lake from the town’s only coffee shop.In the town, the houses were built haphazardly with rocks.Question 11. Which problem did the narrator face at night?
Answer 11: The narrator faced the problem of extreme cold at night. His chest felt heavy when he was lying down, and his one nostril get blocked completely. But when he was getting up, that problem went away. He tried to lie down a few times, but the heaviness in his chest returned each time. As a result, he became anxious and had a strong desire to sleep.So, he spent the whole night sitting.

Answer 12: Daniel accompanied the author on his journey from Ravu. He was with the author and Tsetan until they reached the small-town, Hor. He was returning to Lhasa. At Hor, he found a truck going to Lhasa. So, he parted with the author and took the truck.
Question 13. Who was Norbu? How did the narrator get courage after meeting Norbu?
Answer 13: Norbu worked at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences at the Institute of Ethnic Literature in Beijing. He wrote several articles about Kora, which Buddhist people performed on Mount Kailash, but he never did it himself. He was a Tibetan and came to perform Kora like the author.
The author became companionless after Tsetan left him. He needed someone to accompany him in his Kora. He did not understand the local language and badly needed someone who knew English. Amidst this situation, he found Norbu. He learned English but was ill-equipped in the mountainous region. So, it relieved the narrator, and they decided to continue their journey together. Norbu suggested they rent some yaks to carry the luggage because he was too fat to carry them. He had a very fun personality that made the author feel better. So, the sudden meeting with Norbu motivated the author to complete his pilgrimage.

Answer 14: The author set out from Ravu at dawn to finish his Kora.He was accompanied by Tsetan, a local driver, and Daniel, who was returning to Lhasa. We have a vivid description of the journey in the story. Tsetan took a southwestern route along the Silk Road that would directly reach Mount Kailash. But the journey included several mountain passes. The narrator and his companions first drove through the valley, where they saw a herd of yaks. After that, they noticed the mountaintop and saw nomads’ tents. They also encountered snow and walked on a thin layer of it.As time passed, they drove at higher altitudes, which gave the narrator a headache. They also experienced a dried salt lake and a few salt pans. After this, they reached the small town of Hor in the afternoon.

Answer 15: The poem describes the changing relationship between a father and his son. According to the poem, they were close when the child was young. But with time, the relationship changed between them. The son has become an adult with time, and they both get busy in their own worlds. The father can’t understand his son anymore, and it is increasing the distance between them. He wants to be close to his child but fails to do so. No matter how hard he tries to maintain love like before, he cannot. And it causes anger within him. He only remembers the old days when they were very close, making him nostalgic. But sorrow gets replaced by anger, and it only worsens the relationship. Thus, the poem describes a universal change in the parent-child relationship that occurs with time.
