Paper Pattern

What is the syllabus for CBSE Class 10 Science for the year 2018-19?

The complete Class 10 2018 CBSE syllabus provided by the CBSE Board covers five main units, including Natural Resources (Unit V), Effects of Current (Unit IV), Natural Phenomena (unit III), World of Living (Unit II), and Chemical Substances- Nature and Behavior (Unit I). In the exam, the first unit receives 25 points, the second receives 23, the third receives 12, the fourth receives 13, and the fifth receives 7 points. It now receives a total of 80 points. A further 20 points are awarded for internal evaluation, for a total of 100 points.

55 periods are spent on the first unit. 

The unit covers chapters like Chemical Reactions (equation of chemicals, chemical reaction types like reduction, oxidation, neutralisation, precipitation, double displacement, decomposition, single displacement and combination), Salts, Bases and Acids (including the importance and concept of pH, preparation, and utilisation of washing soda, Plaster of Paris, baking powder, sodium hydroxide, baking soda, properties of nonmetals and metals, metallurgical processes, reactivity series, corrosion and its formation and prevention, and ionic compounds’ properties), carbon compounds (including chapters like unsaturated and saturated hydrocarbons, functional groups, nomenclature, homologous series, nature of carbon, covalent bonding, chemical properties of ethanoic acid, ethanol, detergents, soaps, and carbon), periodic classification of components (including chapters like non-metallic and metallic properties, atomic number, valence, Mendeleev’s modern periodic table and periodic table, Newland’s law of octaves, and Dobereiner’s Triads).

The second unit of the Class 10 Science curriculum covers the topic of life, covering ideas related to activities like nutrition, respiration, excretion and transportation in both plants and animals. In addition to this, control and coordination in both animals and plants also include tropic movements in plants, plant hormones, control and coordination in animals that include the neurological system, reflex action and involuntary and voluntary motion, chemical coordination and animal hormones. The unit also covers family planning techniques, HIV/AIDS and women’s health as well as sexual and asexual reproduction in plants and animals. The chapter also covers the fundamental ideas of evolution, laws governing the inheritance of traits, sex determination, and heredity. Unit II’s entire curriculum is covered in 50 classes.

The third unit of Class 10 CBSE Science, or Unit III of Science Class 10, covers natural phenomena. These phenomena include ideas like the reflection of light by curved surfaces, images created by spherical mirrors and terms like principal axis, a centre of curvature, focal length, principal focus, magnification, refractive index, laws of refraction, refraction of light and images created by spherical lenses, lens formula and power of lenses, the human eye, defects of vision, dispersion and scattering of light and refraction of light through a prism. There will be 23 classes total to finish the course.

There are 32 classes in the course as a whole.

Natural resources are the subject of Unit V, the final science unit for Class 10 students taking the CBSE. Twenty classes in total are required by the CBSE Board for unit V.
