CBSE Class 10 English Communicative Question Paper 2016 with Solutions
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts the Class 10 board exams every year. English is a mandatory subject and carries a total of 75 marks. The English Communicative paper is divided into three sections – Reading, Writing and Grammar, and Literature.

The CBSE Class 10 English Communicative question paper is divided into three sections -Reading (20 marks), Writing and Grammar (25 marks), and Literature (25 marks).
Section A- Reading 20 Marks
This section will test your reading skills. You will be required to read a given text and answer questions based on it. There are a total of four passages in this section, with each passage carrying five marks.
Passage 1- Unseen Prose Passage 8 Marks
Passage 2- Unseen Poetry Passage 12 Marks
Section B- Writing 20 Marks
This section will test your writing skills. You will be required to write an article/letter/speech/report/notice, etc., on any given topic, carrying 10 marks. There is another question in this section that will require you to complete a given unfinished story/ letter/ report, etc., in about 120 words carrying 10 marks. The last question of this section is based on grammar and carries 15 marks.
Section C- Literature 25 Marks
This section contains a variety of questions based on the prescribed textbook and extended reading texts studied by you during the course. These include questions on comprehension, grammar, unseen poetry, unseen prose, literary criticism, creative writing, etc. Carefully attempt all the questions in this section, as there is no choice here.
Some Important Tips to Ace the Exam
Reading Section: This section can be attempted easily if you have practised reading comprehension passages regularly. Be careful while trying the questions, as this section has no negative marking for wrong answers. Before answering any questions, carefully read the instructions.
Writing Section: For the first question, start by brainstorming ideas on the topic. Once you have shortlisted a few points, try to frame them in sentences following proper grammar rules. For the second question, ensure that the story/ letter/ report you write is coherent and has a logical flow. The last question in this section tests your knowledge of grammatical rules; hence, revise all concepts thoroughly before attempting them.
Literature Section: This is probably the most important section from an exam point of view. Revise all concepts thoroughly and attempt all questions confidently, even if you are unsure about the answers. Do not leave any questions blank, as this section has no negative marking.
