Home » The era of edtech: How NEP 2020 is shaping 21st century learning …

NEP 2020 advocates a futuristic approach towards education which involves integrating technology across various teaching-learning processes. It outlines the need for students to be digitally equipped in order to thrive in today's information intensive society. This policy has integrated the ‘Digital India campaign’, which aims to transform India into a technologically powered nation, into the education sector.

In today’s newsletter, we take you through NEP’s key initiatives for driving digital integration in education and how schools should incorporate these tech-powered reforms.

The new NEP guidelines propel schools to re-imagine conventional academic practices and integrate disruptive technologies that enhance learning. NEP envisages a contemporary education system that equips both students and teachers with 21st-century skills to build a bright future in the rapidly growing digital economy.

Academic institutions play a crucial role in enabling new-age learners to experience a digital learning environment that is powered by cutting-edge technology. NEP encourages schools to integrate modern technology like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Machine Learning (ML) and employ digital tools such as interactive whiteboards, computing devices, e-learning software, etc. to enhance the learning experience.

These are the key initiatives and provisions by NEP 2020 that schools should know about:

  • Blended models of learning should be offered for appropriate replication of different subjects. Flipped classrooms and competency-based assignments are great ways to enhance student collaboration and active participation in the classroom.
  • Training and incentives for teachers will be prioritized to help them implement edtech tools, become top-notch content creators and learn how to engage students through digital content.
  • Implementation of disruptive technology by the National Research Foundation (NRF) that will promote application-based research in AI to create online learning material and courses. Training programs will be conducted to impart new digital skills needed for jobs that could become redundant due to AI.
  • Digital repositories of content should be maintained by schools that include all of their coursework and activity-based learning material.
  • Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing (DIKSHA) is a portal created by the Government of India where students will have free access to digital content uploaded by states in all regional languages.
  • National Education Technology Forum (NETF), an autonomous body will be created to facilitate any communication or exchange of ideas pertaining to the use of technology in education.

NEP recommends schools to incorporate digitally adept tools to close competency gaps and make learners future ready. This revolutionary policy acts as a coherent roadmap for schools and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to step up and transform existing educational practices. So, ensure your school is ready to embrace this digital transformation by becoming technologically prepared!
