CBSE Makes 50 Hours of STEM-Focused Training Mandatory for All Teachers

CBSE mANDATES 50-Hours aNNUAL tRAINING FOR TEACHERS

In a major move to enhance teaching standards, all teachers and principals in CBSE-affiliated schools must complete 50 hours of training annually in 2025 as part of the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) mandate, with a special emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education.

As per CBSE’s latest circular (TRG-2/2025 & TRG-3/2025), dated April 1, 2025, the training is structured as follows:

  • 25 hours from external sources: like CBSE–COE programs, DIKSHA/SWAYAM courses, or training via government institutions.
  • 25 hours through internal school-based activities, like workshops, micro-teaching, peer reviews, and EdTech pilots.

This training framework is aligned with the National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) and covers:

  • Core Values & Ethics – 12 hrs

  • Knowledge & Practice – 24 hrs

  • Professional Growth & Development – 14 hrs

🔍 Why This Matters

This rule is aligned with the NEP 2020 and the upcoming National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST), which set a national benchmark for teacher development. According to CBSE, the training must now highlight inquiry-based STEM teaching practices, pushing schools to think beyond traditional pedagogy.

✅ What Counts as Valid Training?

External:

  • CBSE-COE webinars
  • National-level conferences
  • DIKSHA/SWAYAM MOOCs
  • Evaluation duties

Internal:

  • Peer-led lesson study circles
  • Departmental workshops
  • Demo classes
  • School-based action research

Note: Schools are advised to maintain proper logs, attendance, and certificates for each activity, as CBSE inspectors may verify these during affiliation inspections (Clause 16.1, CBSE Bye-laws).

📋 Compliance Checklist: How Schools Can Stay on Track

  • Block ~4 training hours per month in your school calendar.
  • Pre-book free CBSE-COE training seats early.
  • Blend external modules with in-house application workshops.
  • Digitally log hours, provider details, and training domains.
  • Finish all 50 hours before February 2026 to avoid last-minute rush.

🎯 The Bigger Picture

This mandate isn’t just about compliance — it’s a pathway to future-ready classrooms. STEM-trained teachers signal strong school branding, better inspection outcomes, and smoother career growth under NPST-linked appraisals.

📝TLDR:

  • 📘 50 hours training per teacher
  • 🔬 All training must focus on STEM in 2025
  • 📅 Deadline: Before March 2026
  • 📝 Maintain logs for every session
