7 time management tips to use in your exam preparation

Exams can be extremely stressful for many pupils. It can be difficult to manage your time effectively when you have multiple subjects to revise for, a large quantity of coursework to complete, and exams to study for. However, if you want to achieve, you must manage your time during exams.

Here are a few suggestions for managing your time during exams as shared by Venkat Phanikiran, Chief Academic Officer, Extramarks Education Pvt. Ltd.

1. FOLLOW A TIMETABLE

The first step to managing your time during exams is to make a timetable. A study plan will help you to structure your time effectively and ensure that you cover all the necessary topics.

Start by identifying the subjects that you need to revise for, and the topics that you need to cover within each subject. Then, allocate specific times during the day to study each topic.

Make sure to include breaks in your study plan to avoid burnout. Write down what you need to study and how much time you plan to spend on each subject. This will help you stay on track and ensure you cover all the material.

2. LIST YOUR TASKS AS PER PRIORITY

It is important to prioritise your tasks. Focus on the topics that you find the most challenging, as these are likely to require the most time and effort.

Make a list of the tasks that you need to complete and rank them in order of importance. This will help you to allocate your time more effectively and ensure that you cover the most important topics first.

3. USE CALENDAR NOTIFICATIONS

Using a notification can be a helpful tool for managing your time during exams. Block your calendar for a specific amount of time and focus on studying during that time.

When the timer goes off, take a break. This can help you to stay focused and avoid distractions, as well as prevent burnout.

4. REMOVE DISTRACTIONS

Turn off your phone and other distracting devices. You can also use apps or browser extensions that block distracting websites or social media platforms.

5. STUDY IN INTERVALS, TAKE BREAKS

Taking breaks is important for successfully managing your time during exams. Make sure to take frequent breaks throughout the day to unwind and recharge.

Go for a walk, stretch, or simply relax and meditate. This will help you remain focused and energised while avoiding burnout.

You can also employ the Pomodoro technique, which entails studying for 25 minutes, having a five-minute break, and then repeating the process.

6. GET ENOUGH REST

Getting enough sleep is critical for successfully managing your time during exams. Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night to help you remain alert and focused throughout the day.

Avoid studying late at night because it can disrupt your sleep and contribute to burnout.

7. STAY ORGANISED

Staying organised can also assist you in successfully managing your time during exams. Keep your study tools neat and organized, and make sure you have everything you need before you begin studying.

This will save you time looking for items and ensure that you make the most of your study time.
